Shayne started late entering into the vocalist world. He was aged 35 before picking up the mic at one of his uncle’s bands’ gigs in the midlands (the great Reg Jones’ band The Notorious Brothers) and singing a couple of Elvis Rock & Roll numbers, namely ‘That’s allright mama’ and ‘(Let me be your) Teddy bear’.
The response was so positive that he entered a BBC Wales singing competition in 2004. Shayne was totally unaware that his mother found a video clip of him singing in his bedroom and sent it off to the singing competition. He was shocked to receive a letter from the BBC requesting him to attend an audition and was chosen from subsequent auditions to reach the final where he sang his own version of the Elvis ballad ‘Always on my mind’ on live TV! Due to the success of the show, Shayne started to invest in his own PA system and bookings started coming in for him to perform Elvis numbers and other Rock & Roll hits from the 60’s and 70’s around Coventry, the west midlands, North & Mid-Wales. The bookings increased so significantly over that same year that Shayne made the bold decision of leaving his job in engineering and working full time self-employed in the music industry.
Shayne has performed at a wide range of functions, such as weddings, private parties and pubs and clubs around the country. The demand for Shayne to sing mostly Elvis songs and the wishes from fans, led him to invest in an Elvis G.I. uniform, ’68 comeback leathers and jumpsuits and enter competitions in both Porthcawl, south Wales and Blackpool, Lancashire, where the European Elvis Tribute Artist competitions were held every year.
Shayne was then chosen to take part in the ‘World’s Greatest Elvis’ show for BBC1 in London and went on to win the Best European Elvis Gospel title in 2008. Shayne also made the finals for three years running at the Elvis European champion contests held in Blackpool.
Due to personal reasons, Shayne took a break from his singing career in 2010 and eventually went back into production engineering up until January 2019. He has now bounced back to fulfil his passion and enjoyment at performing to audiences countrywide and although Shayne now only performs in casuals, he is as popular as ever and also becoming popular in southern Spain after a trial out there early this year.
If you are looking for a performer of mostly Elvis songs with a few other artist songs thrown in the mix to create a lively, fun-loving atmosphere, Shayne will not disappoint!
